Critical Care Medicine

Critical Care Medicine is the field of medicine that cares for patients with acute, life-threatening illnesses or injury. While there are many types of physicians who care for patients in an Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care (or Intensive Care Medicine) physicians have additional training in caring for patients with this type of illness. Examples of disease states cared for by a Critical Care physician include sepsis, pneumonia, ventilator management, life-threatening infections like pneumonia, and vital sign abnormalities like dangerously-low blood pressure.
