Pulmonary Medicine

Pulmonary Medicine is a subspecialty of medicine that deals with diseases of the lung. Doctors who practice pulmonary medicine (“Lung Doctors”) have completed a 3-year training program in Internal Medicine and then an additional 2 to 3-year training in Pulmonary Medicine. Examples of diseases/conditions treated by a lung specialist include shortness of breath, asthma, COPD/emphysema, chronic cough, wheezing, pneumonia, pulmonary embolism and DVT, among others.
